Board amends ACT bylaws; plan election for October

MONDAY, AUGUST 1, 2016— At a special meeting July 26, the Alliance of Cambridge Tenants Governing Board voted to approve Bylaws amendments proposed by the Executive Officers. The amendments include changes in the Board’s election process.

Under the new rules each ACT voter may choose any three candidates, without restriction, from either public housing or voucher programs. The Board will continue to have equal representation from the public housing and voucher programs, though the size of the Board will now be smaller.

The co-Secretary positions are abolished, reducing the number of executive officers from six to four.

The former two-year terms of office for Board members are now increased to three years. There are no longer any term limits for either Board or Officer positions.

ACT will continue to be the recognized citywide independent tenant organization representing all CHA public housing (which includes RAD and Formerly Public Housing developments) and voucher tenants.

The Board also voted on amending ACT’s Annual Budget to include the cost of holding a Board election in October 2016.
