NOTICE: on February 9 the ACT Board will vote on bylaws changes

SATURDAY, JANUARY 26 [update]—Notice is hereby given that the Governing Board of the Alliance of Cambridge Tenants (ACT) will meet on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 3:00 PM at 135 Prospect Street. This meeting will vote on amendments to the Bylaws including Articles IV, V, VI, VII, IX and XV.

ACT members received a preliminary proposal for the December Board meeting. At that meeting amembers signed up to a review committee that has been meeting to produce a report for the Board. The committee completed its work on January 25 and the report is posted here

The February 9 Board will vote item by item on around a dozen proposed changes. Some are about procedures and policies that have been generally followed by ACT but never set down in the Bylaws. There are also a number of minor changes to clarify the meaning of certain clauses. You can find the Bylaws proposal in its entirety here. The Board's vote will determine how to replace the Bylaws adopted in 2016.

More substantial changes would include

• increasing the number of seats on the ACT Board. —Article IV A

• re-creating two co-secretary positions —Article VI. B(3)

• re-creating an Assistance and Outreach Committee. —Article VII C

• positions of Office Manager and Office Committee —Article VII F

After the Board has voted each item up or down, there will be a vote to approve the new Bylaws, which will go into effect immediately. This will begin the nine-month process of moving to the election of a new ACT Board in October. That will be the organization's fifth Board election.
